Dear Friends and Family,

After a short discussion, we agreed that your presence at our celebration (and if you cannot make it, your interest in our well being) is enough of a gift to us. We have therefore decided to forgo a traditional registry of gifts. However, if you wish to give, you could help us as we have taken on another project through 1Well.

For those of you who don't remember, we sponsored the repair of a check dam in Sedla Village, India, to help local farmers harvest monsoon water throughout the year (technically the project was run by Matt, but on any examination it was apparent that Dana was the brains and the driving force in the whole thing and that Matt probably should have asked her to marry him then if he had any sense in him - thank God she hung in there till he could get his head out of his arse). We have decided to return to Sedla to sponsor the development of a childcare center for the laborers in the village so that their children have a safe place to learn and develop while they are at work.

About the Project:

Many Sedla families rely on salt farming for their income, and live in temporary housing in the desert for 8 months of the year. These salt pan communities are 20-25 kms away from the village and have no access to childcare or educational facilities. Parents must take their children to work in the salt pans, exposing them to harmful conditions and leaving them vulnerable to disease and harmful insects.This project will create a childcare center in the desert during the salt pan season that focuses on both physical and mental development of the children, including nutrition, routine checkups, and primary education. The Center will provide 30 children with 3 nutritious meals a day, health care and education; reduce cases of disease and injury among children; create 2 new teaching jobs; and increase work hours for parents.

School Supplies Gift: $25 Traditional Gift Equivalent: Wine Glass Set 1Well Gift: $25 will allow the Sedla Village Childcare Center to provide 30 children up to age 6 with toys and school supplies for an 8 month session

Nutritious Meals Gift: $50 Traditional Gift Equivalent: Toaster Oven 1Well Gift: $50 will allow the Sedla Village Childcare Center to provide 3 nutritious meals a day to 30 children up to age 5 for the period of a month

Healthcare & Immunizations Gift: $75 Traditional Gift Equivalent: Blender / Juicer 1Well Gift: $75 will cover the immunization and primary care expenses for 30 children up to age 5 at the Sedla Village Childcare Center

Teaching Staff Salary Gift: $100 Traditional Gift Equivalent: Fine China Dinnerware Set 1Well Gift: $100 will cover the salaries of 2 teachers of the childcare center for a period of 2 months

Monthly Operational Costs of a Childcare Center Gift: $150 Traditional Gift Equivalent: Espresso Maker 1Well Gift: $150 provides for the total expenses of the Sedla Village Childcare Center for 1 month; this primary care and educational facility is vital for the physical and mental development of the children of Sedla village, as it provides a safe and nurturing learning environment for the children while their parents work in the desert salt pans
