Fundraising is complete! The total project cost have been wired to the Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA), 1Well's field partner in India, and funds are being distributed to start construction on the handpump wells.
About Nokna Village
The scarcity of clean drinking water is a significant problem for the semi-arid, farming community of Nokna. Village women must walk up to 2 hours everyday, over very hilly terrain, to collect water 2 to 3 times a day.
Village women must walk up to 2 hours everyday, over very hilly terrain, to collect water 2 to 3 times a day. When they arrive, they have to wait in long lines as the existing hand pump runs out of water and it takes 30 to 60 minutes to recharge.
This project will support the repair of a hand pump and the construction of a new pump for human drinking water. The hand pumps will allow village women to gain easy access to drinking water, reduce the need to wait for water to recharge, and alleviate the strain put on existing water resources.
Project Impact
Provides more than 60 families with easy access to clean drinking water. Reduces the time and frequency women will need to travel, and reduces waiting time to access water at the well by 30 minutes.
Availability of water for drinking and washing will dramatically improve village health and sanitation.
