Dear Friends,

I recently partnered with Jogad Village with the help of 1Well. After learning about the Jogad community's need for alternative energy, I committed to raise $8,800 to provide 125 solar lanterns to to Jogad Village as part of 1Well's Clean Energy for the Poor program.

Jogad Villiage is located in Gujarat, India. Jogad is a very poor community that relies on salt farming for its income. It is very difficult work that requires them to live in the desert in temporary shelters for 8 months out of the year. There are no water or electric facilities. At night, animals and dangerous insects are a nuisance for women cooking meals and caring for their children. The lack of lighting also becomes hazardous for people needing to relieve themselves in the dark. The lanterns will provide them with a carbon-free source of light during the night.

Without the lanterns, Jogad's energy options include scavenging for wood, cutting down small trees and other techniques that contribute to deforestation and increase in carbon emissions. Our lanterns are carbon free and reduce the village's dependence on kerosene, which can be a danger and health hazard.

The lanterns are also a source of income for women who are trained to assemble, fix and sell spare parts for the lanterns.

Please join me in supporting Jogad Villiage. Go to www.1Well.org. Select Jogad Villiage from the pull down menu and make your donation. 100% of what you give goes to Jogad. If you want to help 1Well continue its great work, please consider increasing your contribution by 10% ($100 to $110) to help them cover their costs for making this and many other amazing projects a reality.

Thank you for your support. I am currently grassroots fundraising through bake sales—homemade chocolate chip cookies and/or Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich Stands at my work place--Stanford University and local farmers markets. If you’d like to host my efforts, please let me know. Got oven—will travel.

Best,

Ariadne
